Willow’s new lease on life

Gorgeous five year old Pointer cross Kelpie Willow was taken to the Lost Dogs' Home at Wingecarribee after being seen wandering the local area for three days.

After a fruitless search to locate her owner, Willow was placed up for adoption, where she caught the attention of Natalie and Rob.

“We’d been looking for the perfect family dog for three weeks, visiting different shelters and pounds in that time. We were fussy as our young daughter is nervous around jumpy dogs, we have a baby due in a few weeks and we also have pet rabbits,” said Natalie.

After reading Willow’s bio on dogshome.com, the family called Wingecarribee to find out more about her.

“We didn’t want to make the hour and half trip only to find out she wasn’t suitable,” explained Natalie, “but the staff were helpful and believed Willow would be perfect, so we were happy to make the trip.”

Adopting a shelter dog is the best thing we’ve done. Willow loves car rides and is great with Morgan – very gentle. She is happy to be bathed and have a good brush and recognises six different voice commands. When friends meet her they are amazed at how calm, well trained and sweet she is.”

A short time after settling in to her new home, Willow enjoyed her first bush walk and has since been spotted relaxing at dog-friendly cafes.

“We’ve also since found out that Willow loves playing fetch with muddy tennis balls! Despite this, she’s the perfect dog for us. We were honest with ourselves about the type of dog we wanted and we stuck to the criteria. We could have been swayed by the cute pups or just chosen any of the deserving dogs, but we knew an older dog would suit us better.”

The Lost Dogs' Home wish Willow and her new family a very happy and long life together.

All dogs and pups from the Home are desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed and heart worm tested. Those adopted from our North Melbourne shelter also receive a free post-adoption training session with Planet K9.
