Norman is Pet of the Month

Erin Waters adopted Japanese Chin Norman from The Lost Dogs' Home back in 1998 when he was just three months old. Erin walked through the adoption area at the Home and noticed Norman in the corner of his pen looking depressed and lonely. He was recovering from his desexing operation and appeared to be very, very sad and in need of some love and attention.

Without hesitation, Erin adopted Norman who would soon become her best mate and a devoted member of the family.

Norman lived with Erin and her family on their small farm for the first few years of his life where he enjoyed open spaces and the company of other farm animals. His favourite pastimes were helping to feed the horses and stealing the pet emu’s food! Norman has now comfortably adopted the identity of a trendy, urban dog and loves the sights and sounds the city has to offer.

Now that Norman has reached double figures, he has developed some health issues which are being treated by the veterinary team at The Lost Dogs' Home. He has congestive cardiac disease which causes a murmur in his heart as well as some degenerative spinal cord issues. His heart condition is being treated with medication which Erin gives to Norman in some bread and jam each day. His spinal disease is being treated with acupuncture administered by one of the Home’s vets with very good results. Acupuncture is used to treat muscular-skeletal diseases in animals, just as it is in humans.

"Anything that prolongs Norman’s life is worth it. Ten years is not long enough with Norman", said Erin Waters.

"Norman has such a big heart and soul. I knew there was something special about him as soon as saw him at The Lost Dogs' Home ten years ago", she said.
